On the morning of May 27 local time, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council, South Korean President Yoon Xiyue and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida jointly attended the ninth China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting in Seoul.
Li Qiang said that this year marks the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Japan-ROK cooperation mechanism. Li Qiang put forward five suggestions on deepening cooperation between China, Japan and the ROK: the first is to promote the comprehensive resumption of cooperation, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, fully activate the stock of cooperation, steadily cultivate increments, and form bilateral relations and cooperation among the three countries to promote each other. The second is to deepen economic and trade connectivity, maintain the stability and smooth flow of the industrial chain supply chain, and resume and complete the negotiations on the free trade agreement between China, Japan and South Korea as soon as possible. The third is to lead cooperation in scientific and technological innovation and strengthen collaborative innovation and cooperation in frontier fields. China will establish a "China-Japan-ROK Innovation Cooperation Center" in China to help the three countries speed up the cultivation of new momentum. Fourth, tighten the ties of people-to-people exchanges and take the holding of the year of Cultural Exchange between China, Japan and South Korea as an opportunity to promote the people of the three countries to move from "living next to each other" to "connecting with each other." Fifth, efforts should be made to promote sustainable development, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in the areas of low-carbon transformation, climate change, aging and dealing with epidemics, and explore and carry out more "China, Japan and South Korea + X" cooperation projects.
Li Qiang pointed out: the current situation on the Korean Peninsula remains tense, and all parties should play a constructive role, strive to ease the situation, restart dialogue at an early date, push forward the process of political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, and safeguard regional peace and stability. China, Japan and South Korea should make good use of their respective development advantages, actively link up with the needs of ASEAN and other regional countries, and create a new engine of regional cooperation. It is necessary to join hands to boost the momentum of cooperation between ASEAN and China, Japan and South Korea (103.3). China is willing to work with the ROK and Japan to actively promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind and join hands to safeguard the long-term stability of the region and the world.
The leaders of South Korea and Japan said that it is of great significance to restart cooperation between South Korea, Japan and China after more than four years. It is hoped that the three countries will take this leaders' meeting as a new starting point to maintain the stability and continuity of cooperation, continuously deepen cooperation in the six major fields of humanities, sustainable development, economy and trade, public health, science and technology, and disaster relief, and restart negotiations on the free trade agreement between South Korea, Japan and China. Jointly promote regional cooperation in East Asia, join hands to deal with climate change and other global issues, promote the stable development of relations between South Korea, Japan and China, and better benefit the people of the three countries. Li Qiang said that in the face of new challenges and opportunities, China-Japan-ROK cooperation should show new responsibilities and new achievements. The three parties issued the Joint Declaration of the Ninth China-Japan-ROK leaders' meeting, the Joint statement on the Ten-year Vision for intellectual property Cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea, and the Joint statement on the Prevention, Preparedness and response of the Future pandemic. They agreed to commit themselves to implementing the Prospect of China-Japan-ROK Cooperation for the next decade adopted by the eighth leaders' meeting, and to promote the institutionalization of cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea. We will maintain close communication and cooperation within the multilateral framework of ASEAN, China, Japan, and the ROK, and jointly safeguard world peace, stability, development and prosperity. The three sides agreed to designate 2025-2026 as the year of cultural exchanges between China, Japan and South Korea.
